Vision

Introduction

My Health Agent helps me monitor my health, and suggests actions to improve my health. It takes my medical history and integrates that information with the ever-changing medical histories of other members of my family. It exports part or all of my medical history to individuals and agents who I name. It stores medical information resulting from checkups, such as blood test values.

Problem/Opportunity Statement

The problem There currently is no widely deployed way to integrate the medical information associated with an individual.
Affected parties Individuals and health care practitioners.
Impact Individuals need to fill out medical histories multiple times for different health care practitioners. Such forms necessarily are not comprehensive so that filling them out is not too burdensome. Consequently, less information is provided, it may fall out of date, and multiple entry invites inconsistency/error.

Product Position Statement

The following alternatives exist.

  • Quick Medical Expense Manager - http://www.quickenmedical.com/. Track and organize your medical expenses.
  • HealthFrame - http://www.recordsforliving.com/HealthFrame/. HealthFrame is a software system designed to permanently record, organize and help you and those to whom you permit access, to more easily and completely understand all aspects of your personal health – as well as that of your family.
  • Synchart - http://www.synchart.com/. SynChart is a personal health record system. The problem: Consumers currently are required to be walking encyclopedias of their health history. Poor communication between patients and their health care providers is the core problem in health care. Benefits: 1. Better health care - the most important benefit. 2. Increased efficiencies for you and your family in interacting with the health care system.  3. Fewer worries when traveling or seeing a new physician. 4. Greater empowerment to manage your family’s health care. There is a fee of around $55/year for this service.
  • MyMedicalRecords.com - http://www.mymedicalrecords.com/. MyMedicalRecords.com, seeks to empower health care consumers and medical professionals by facilitating access to consumer medical records and associated vital documents (such as living wills, birth certificates and insurance policies). The Company offers consumers an easy-to-use, secure web-based product that allows documents, images and voice mail messages to be transmitted in and out of the MMR system using a variety of methods, including fax, file upload and email.

This product is differentiated from all the existing alternatives, since:

  • It is free to use.
  • It is open source.
  • It automatically suggests a nutritional plan, based on a health history. This is a controversial (liability?) new expert system.
  • It automatically suggests specific nutritional supplements, given a nutritional plan. This amounts to formulating and solving an integer linear  program.

Key Goals

  1. Improve the communication of health information between patients and their health care providers.
  2. Monitor my health as intimately as possible as part of an event-oriented control system, where there are:
    • internal events (from real-time body monitoring via, e.g., the client's cellphone)
    • external events (regularly scheduled exercise, tests, etc.).
  3. Select a nutritional plan based on my profile (medical histories, test history, and any other available information).
  4. Price nutritional supplements, allowing me to optimize purchases on cost or other criteria, given a nutritional plan.
  5. Accessable via smart cards, cell phones, and my personal computer.
  6. Export a web-based repository of [part of] my health profile to me and my human health care agents, if I authorize it.
  7. Incorporate a genetic profile into the processes above, if requested by its owner, when such information is avaiable.
