His research interests include a variety of theoretical and applied topics in cryptography as well as information theory, computational complexity, and computer security. Ben Zhao Dr. Ben Zhao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Dr. Zhao joined the Department in 2004. His PhD is from UC Berkeley. His research interests include: networking, security and privacy, distributed systems, simulation and modeling. These days, he spends a lot of time gathering, mining and analyzing online social networks. Adam spent a total of nine years at UCSB first in the CS BS/MS program and now in the PhD program. In between his MS and PhD, Adam spent a year at Microsoft as a full-time developer. Currently, Adam works in the Computer Security lab with Giovanni Vigna and Christopher Kruegel. Adam researches ways to hack websites and to protect websites from hackers.
