  1. When are the office hours?

    Office hours are held in CSIL.

  2. I am logged in and staring at the screen. What next?

    Get a terminal window up. This allows you to enter commands to the system. Find the paper icon on the bottom of the screen and click on it, to bring out a menu. Choose the terminal item (one click is enough).

  3. How do I access the web from CSIL?

    At the command prompt (only the boldface stuff)
    $netscape&

  4. How can I change my password?

    The office of engineering has a web page to change your password here. Choose the account maintenance section. You will be required to login and then may change your password.

  5. You said there was another shell available. How do I get it?

    You will need to down-load the following files:

    Save each file in your home directory with a preceding dot in the file name. For example 'emacs' should be saved as '.emacs'

    You may also simply type the following after logging in
    $~cs60/scripts/install-scripts
    $

    Again, login through the web page and change you shell to "/bin/bash".

  6. What program do I use to read the files on the cs 60 website?

    You need to have postscript viewer. This is already installed on the lab machines. There is a free one for many machines called ghostscript here.

  7. Can I access the CSIL computers from my home computer?

    You may use the "telnet" command to access any CSIL machine. The address is csil.cs.ucsb.edu
