Assignment 5
Progress Presentations

Synopsis: during a series of mandatory meetings, each group in turn will answer the question, "What have you done so far?" Grading for this assignment will focus on the presentations, not the projects. Other groups' members will attend, and are expected to provide questions, comments and helpful suggestions.

Visitors are welcome too. The CS Department even recorded videos of some past presentations.

Instructions for presenters - on the day of your group's presentation:

Find your group's randomly selected day in the presentation schedule below. Be ready to begin your presentation at any time during the session. The schedule within a session was randomly selected too, but it is subject to change. Presentations will take place in the usual lecture room.
All group members must participate - i.e., introduce yourself and your personal contributions to the project, present some part of it, and be ready to answer questions.
The presentation format is not fixed, but we suggest you present your most up-to-date versions of at least the following:
1. Vision, including problem statement and goals (and summarized use cases only if they are important, and you don't expect to demonstrate them later).
2. Domain model, especially including static class diagram(s).
3. Overall architecture (e.g., package diagram), and key design elements.
4. Plans to complete the system by the final project deadline, including a discussion of work-in-progress.
Do NOT expect to just demonstrate the system (we cannot guarantee availability of hardware/software for all projects, so demonstrations will not count toward this assignment's grade), but planning an optional demonstration is appropriate.
Insure that visual aids are visible to the whole class. You may plan to use the overhead projector for plastic transparencies, and/or the computer to show PowerPoint or other presentations, but you must also prepare back-up procedures in case these media are not available or properly configured on your presentation day.
Presentations must last no longer than 15 minutes, including setup and discussion time. Preferred length is 12-15 minutes (to fit three groups comfortably into a 50-minute lecture period). Practice your presentations to insure they are sharp, and can be completed within the allowed time frame.

Instructions for participation by non-presenters - the other five days:

All students are expected to attend all presentations. Each student may miss up to two sessions without individual grade penalties. However, every group must be fairly represented at every session, and therefore no more than two students from any one group can miss on any given day.

To clarify - a total of 10 points is available for this assignment. But:

1 point will be subtracted from an individual's score for each missed session after two misses.
1 point will be subtracted from a group's score for each session in which more than two members miss.

Attendance will be monitored to verify these restrictions.
Please remember it is rude to arrive late or leave early, and act accordingly. A roll call may be taken at any time (even more than once) during a session.
We encourage your comments and/or questions for the presenters too.
