Abstract:
Video compression has been a key enabling
technology for a variety of consumer electronics devices and applications
such as camera phones, DVD players, personal media players, digital camcorders,
streaming video etc. In this talk we will provide an overview of video
coding standards activities being undertaken in ITU-T and ISO/IEC (MPEG).
We will discuss Scalable Video Coding (SVC) standard and Multiview Video
Coding (MVC) activities in the Joint Video Team of ITU-T and ISO/IEC(MPEG)
and Free Viewpoint TV (FTV) activity in ISO/IEC. We will also provide
an overview of technical activities being carried out in the ITU-T Video
Coding Experts Groups (VCEG) where new video coding techniques are being
presented to improve performance over MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.
MADHUKAR BUDAGAVI is a Member Group Technical Staff at
the Texas Instruments DSP solutions R&D center in Dallas, TX, USA.
Dr. Budagavi currently represents TI in ITU-T and JVT video coding standards
meetings. His responsibility in TI includes designing and developing video
coding algorithms and software for various TI products in the camera phone
and digital camera space in addition to video coding standards participation.
