[April 1 2019] The first class.


Abstract: We will cover a broad range of topics related to data and knowledge bases.  The focus is on the study of relational and text data models and their query languages and algorithms.  It will also introduce basic information retrieval and machine learning concepts, principles and algorithms, including language model, text search, classification, and clustering.

Prerequisites: basic understanding of relational databases,  statistics, and know how to program.

Each student is expected to complete one homework assignment, one project, and one final exam.

Grading: Your grade will be derived from homework (20%), project (50%), final exam (30%).
