Despite
the additional requirements, we expect students will be able to
complete their doctorate within the normal departmental schedule.
This is primarily the result of assured funding for the first two
years. Typically at UCSB, students take Teaching Assistant positions
during each quarter for the first year or two of their graduate
program in order to pay their tuition and fees and receive a stipend.
Because the IGERT Fellowship frees them from this necessity, students
will have more time to devote to the additional requirements and
to explore research opportunities without funding worries.

scholar. Items in red are not required
but are strongly encouraged.
