Although some departments at UCSB have minimum teaching requirements in their program, not all do. Because we believe that it is quite valuable for graduate students to participate in the organization, instruction, and management of courses, the program provides opportunities for IGERT scholars to spend at least one quarter as a Teaching Assistant for a course relevant to interactive digital media. In addition to the leadership and management skills gained from such an experience, competence in presenting lectures and explaining technical material to others is vital for any research career.
