Sharing and presenting research is an integral part of the educational process. Because a lack of funding should never prohibit publishing one's work, IGERT students are eligible for support to offset the high costs of conference travel. Three opportunities for travel assistance include:

Graduate Student Travel Grants [click for an application]: The UCSB Graduate Division awards several of these awards each year to doctoral scholars who have advanced to candidacy.

IGERT Faculty Advisors: Many of the participating faculty enjoy extramural funding and are willing to support travel related to their research.

IGERT Travel Funds: Additionally, IGERT Fellows may request support from the program directly. Students seeking travel funds must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Students must be active particpants in IGERT. This includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance at weekly seminars and satisfactory completion of other IGERT program requirements.

• Students must be invited to present a paper, present research, perform or exhibit at a major professional conference or meeting. Furthermore, the subject matter of the presentation must be related to work conducted while under the support of IGERT. Proof of invitation or selection of the applicant for presentation/performance must be provided.

• A faculty letter of support is required, which should include information about the professional importance of the conference.

• IGERT in Interactive Digital Multimedia (NSF Grant #DGE-0221713) must be acknowledged in the version of the paper to be published.

• Original receipts are required within 10 days after the conference for processing.

• Requests for funding will be considered on a case by case basis with the following maximums:

• $350 for California.

• $700 all other locations (note that IGERT will only cover domestic travel).

• IGERT Travel funds may only be used to pay for registration, travel, lodging, and meals & incidental expenses.
